So let's see... I have survived my first 3 weeks at a German university, but my brain hurts. The system being completely different is making me crazy. Not only does one only have to register for exams and not for classes, but we don't get homework and only are graded on the final or final paper. And all the classes are the same format, while in the states the teacher explains everything to everyone as if it's their first day ever no matter what. But here, all the classes work the same way, so the professors never go through any intro stuff and just automatically start talking.
But my classes are fun. I shall now talk about them.

California Writers:
This class is in English, and it's about California, during mostly the time around when it first became a state, when people like Steinbeck and Mark Twain and Brett Harte were writing books and things. On the first day, the professor asked everyone what images came to mind when they thought about California, and stuff like "surfing" and "las vegas" came up. It was interesting already. Being originally from California, I end up comparing what I know with what people say in class, and it's pretty amusing.

Lehrwerk Kurs:
It's a German grammar and writing thing. It's not super amazing, but talking to eachother in class is fun.

Landeskunde:
It's a history-based thing in German but geared towards foreign people. Like most classes here, we each have to do a presentation at different times during the term, depending on the topic. Mine is first, in 2 weeks. I'm so nervous.

Romanian:
My favorite class. Learning a language in German is definitely a good way to get used to thinking in German and not in English. And Romanian is a fun language, even though we didn't learn actual phrases until last class. I wish it were more than once a week, and I wish we actually got homework. That would help me a lot. But alas, I have to just keep talking to myself while looking at my notes. One other cool thing about that class is that it gives me a good opportunity to talk to people. I've already met a German girl in that class who I think I could potentially be friends with.

Um yeah, so those are my classes this term. yay!

I should also talk about my latest crazy adventure: The machine ate my debit card. It freaked me out at first, but I could still pay rent, and i have some cash, so I just have to hold out as best I can until my dad can get a new card for me and send it here. First the hard drive crash and now this, it seems rather silly that both of those things that have somehow never happened to me before choose an inconvenient time while i'm in a foreign country to happen. But I think the hard drive crash was worse. If I survived that, I can survive this too.
